SOUND PAINTINGS

My Sound Paintings are a new and exciting form of art that I began back in 2010. An idea I had been playing with since high school, it involves combining my love of tiny details and my interest in video and sound editing to create a whole new form of story-telling in art. With each painting I create, I then piece together a unique audio environment by mixing and editing digital audio clips that I purchase from online archives or record myself. In future pieces, I'm hoping to seek the approval of various musical artists to begin using their work to help tell the story my artwork is attempting to convey.

In galleries, these pieces are accompanied by wireless stereo headphones, that help block out all surrounding distractions, and bring the veiwer deep into the world of audio and visual art before them. Each small sound is like each small detail of my painting; it makes the story behind the scenes that much more involved.
For private display, the paintings are suited with small sound chips that are mounted behind the piece, and with a press of a small button can send out the sounds through a surprisingly clear and crisp mini speaker. These chips are virtually undetectable. No one will know your new decoration is a sound painting, until you show them just what it can do.

Sound Paintings are available for original or print purchase without their audio environments, but I highly encourage you to include those with your purchase, and be some of the first to own this unique form of artistic expression. The sound chips are usually purchased for display, costing $20 per painting. If your sound chip breaks years after purchase, you only need to send another order for one, and I'll send it to you for only $10 per chip. However, if you wish to buy a wireless headphone set instead of a sound chip (to display in a noisy public space for instance), one may be purchased for $80.50 to shut out the world and bring the sounds even closer to your ears. If you wish to only have the digital file of the sound environent to use in your own devices, one may be sent to you for $15.

All of my Sound Paintings can be viewed on SKYline Studio's YouTube channel. This allows you to enjoy the sights and sounds of each painting on your computer. You can also click the paintings below to view them individually.

I am very excited about this concept. After so many years of simply toying with the idea, it is so rewarding to see it finally taking shape and to witness the positive reactions of so many. As of now, I only have four completed Sound Paintings, but have begun putting more time into this series, and plan on having many more finished over the following months with new and exciting forms of audio accompaniment. Please be sure to check back to the website and to my channel to see what comes next!

"It is not the language of painters but the language of nature which one should listen to, the feeling for the things themselves, for reality,
is more important than the feeling for pictures. "
